Malaysian Diaspora Should Promote Malaysia: Mustapa
MEXICO CITY, May 23 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian diaspora should play their role in promoting Malaysia abroad to ensure the country continues to enjoy peace, stability and prosperity, says Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamad.
"There are people who are trying to run down our country, but the fact is that we have gone through a lot of transformation and nobody can imagine that Malaysia will be where we are today. This is because of education, development, and the sacrifice of our leaders.
"Wherever we are, whether we are in the government or private sector, we only have one thing, we only have one objective, (that) is to work for our country, for ourselves, our family, and ensure Malaysia continues to be politically stable and provide opportunities for our children."
Mustapa, who led a trade and investment mission to Peru, Mexico and Chile, was speaking at an event he hosted for Malaysians residing here recently.
Organised by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade), the mission aims to expand Malaysia's bilateral trade with Mexico.
Mustapa noted the journey from Malaysia to Mexico was quite long and exhausting.
"Getting to Mexico is a 20-hour journey. However, the whole world is getting smaller, time is getting shorter and we are getting better and better connected.
"Not many Mexicans know that we are separated by a long distance but the world is getting smaller.
"I am here to promote Malaysia, not many Mexicans know the (Petronas) Twin Towers, so by coming here, they will be able to know more about Malaysia and I am sure when you come here, you met lots of people and lots of friends," Mustapa said.
He also urged the community to continue communicating, to enable them to promote Malaysia.
Mustapa commended Matrade for organising the inaugural trade mission to the Latin American countries.
"Firstly, I would like to thank the Malaysian Ambassador to Mexico Mohamad Azhar Mazlan, especially to Matrade for bringing us here and for organising such a very good programme, and everyone is happy," he added.
